Group 1: Three Girls and a Guy

When faced with a disasterous dresses from the 90's, our group had a lot to overcome. We transformed an outdated prom dress and a top half of another awkward bridesmaid outfit into a cute and fun "Grease" style outfit. We changed the pink dress into a pair of leggings and altered the black corsette to make a top with a pink brim. Now the piece is a lot more functional and less ugly.

When faced with this long, outdated, almost antique dress it was difficult to transform it into a current fashion garment. The dress had lovely color as well as beautiful lace detailing which was accented within the new and much more modern dress style. While still using the idea from the old and outdated dress our group was able to take the concept of this dress and transform it onto a beautiful new fashion garment easily worn in today’s world.

The look on our faces when we saw the original dress was......amazed. Amazed at how ugly, and  antique looking it was. The poofy shoulders, terrible shaping, and plain old boringness had left us at odds. With a little careful design, and consultation, we were able to turn what was a grandma dress, into a modern fashion statement. The process may have been difficult, but I believe the final result was well worth the work.

This formal dress was worn as a bridesmaid dress. The length of the dress killed us. The cape was undesirable, and useless to what we wanted to achieve. We wanted to change the dress to look like a punk-rock dress. We wanted the bottom tiered with lace, and thicker straps. We shortened the dress to mid thigh length. The straps were thickened with fabric from the bottom, and then flare was added by sewing on lace. Layers were then added to the bottom half using the sewing machine and hand-sewing. And our group manager disposed of the awful cape.

This former bridesmaid dress was long, un-flattering, very boring and needed a new life.  It was shapeless and outdated and with a little help from scissors, some lace, and a sewing machine, our group was able to turn this dress into a fashionable, sleek, dress that someone would be happy to wear.  :)
In our group there were four people, a manager, designer, illustrator and model.  The illustrator drew a sketch which served as an outline for the designer. We all worked together and although we had specific jobs we all helped with the whole process. Our group enjoyed collaborating and working together to transform this dress.

This outdated pink dress was unflattering to the figure and was in desperate need of a makeover.  The combination of the lace and many folds of fabric were hideous.  With a little sewing expertise and innovative design plan, we hoped to give this lackluster dress new life.  To fix it up, we planned on cutting it shorter and including darker fabric to balance out the pink.  In order to modernize the dress we switched the antiquated pink lace for trendy black lace. The end product was a cute dress with a satin skirt and a lace, asymmetrical top. This dress is perfect for a party or a formal dance…like the upcoming Snow Ball!

This pink dress is an early 80's prom dress, big poofy and long. It needed new life, so we re-vamped it into a funky jacket. We added flowers, chains, buttons and patches. We hemmed it, took off the sleeves, and cut it down the middle.
The black shirt and skirt duo is an early to mid 90's creation. The shirt is cropped with straps and metallic stitching. The skirt is highwaisted, floorlength and has kness high slits up the sides. We trasformed it into a "little black dress" by hemming the skirt a lot and adding a pink belt. The top we just threw away. We mad lace earings for an accessory and the rest is history.
